Compound Cattle Feed

Compound cattle feed is a homogenous blend of various concentrate feed ingredients, supplemented with the basal diet.  Commonly used ingredients in compound cattle feed include grains, brans, protein meals/cakes, chunnies, agro-industrial byproducts, minerals and vitamins, in suitable proportion.  Animal Nutrition Group provides cattle feed advisory services to Cattle Feeds Plants (CFPs) under the dairy cooperatives, by monitoring quality of raw materials and finished products. The group promotes use of different compound feeds such as calf starter and calf growth meal for young stock, feed for high yielding animals, buffalo feed, feed for pregnant animals. The group also assists CFPs in least cost feed formulation, revising purchase specifications and test methods of cattle feed raw materials, finished products, including mineral mixture.

Average capacity utilisation of CFPs in the dairy cooperative sector reached about 95 per cent. In view of the growing demand of quality feed, many of the existing CFPs are being expanded and new CFPs with modern technologies are being installed in many states.
