Milk procurement is the dairy cooperatives' core activity,
in which they now face an increasingly competitive challenge.
The Dairy Board helps Cooperative Milk Producers'
Unions to organise new, as well as to revitalise existing
Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCSs). Support is
also provided in evolving pricing and other procurement
enhancing strategies.

The Dairy Board assists milk unions which organise new
cooperative societies, strengthen existing ones and
revitalise those that function poorly or not at all.
The key intervention is training of union personnel.
Nearly 35,000 milk union society organisation and procurement
staff have been trained by experts in the field.

A variety of methods are used to calculate the
price of milk: fat content; both fat and SNF content;
and simply the volume supplied. The Dairy Board assists
unions in studying the suitability as well as the costs
and benefits of alternative pricing strategies.
