 Vendor Development

In the late 1960s, prior  to the start of Operation Flood,  there  were about 15  dairy equipment manufacturers, including  three  large companies.  The growth of the dairy industry, triggered by Operation Flood, can be seen by the increase in equipment manufacturers :

Manufacturers  1970 1998
Public Sector Companies Nil
Large Scale and Medium Scale Companies 4  42
Small Scale Manufacturers 11 124
Total 15 174

Support to Indian Firms

The substantial  increase in the number of firms manufacturing dairy equipment has been supported by  NDDB's  continuous, concentrated efforts to strengthen them. Providing detailed engineering designs and specifications of standard equipment by NDDB has acted as a catalyst in encouraging the firms to take up manufacturing activities.  Particularly emphasis has been given to small and medium sector firms.
