Presence of contaminants and residues in liquid milk and milk products significantly affects food safety and quality. NDDB have initiated the process of collecting samples and analysing it at its in house facility to understand the quality of milk and milk products and levels of contaminants/residues creating a consolidated data base.

At the global level the focus has moved to the contaminants and residues (pesticides, insecticides, antibiotics, veterinary drugs, toxins and heavy metals) that gain entry to milk from various sources and the effect these carry overs have on the human health. It is important to keep the track of these carryover levels of the various contaminants and residues, to keep information of limits in milk and milk products.

Need based studies and surveys are conducted that may be useful for the fixation of permissible limits for milk and milk products.
